'Covet' serves as the first single from the forthcoming Agablis album. Creating a melodic drum and bass piece, this track was recorded with live sampled drums, lush guitar, and intimate and prayerful vocals. It layers dissonant tension with sharp drum breaks against ethereal vocals and inviting synth soundscapes.
Covet takes inspiration from early drum and bass artists like Photek, Grooverider, Roni Size, and Goldie while still blending experimental elements familiar to the Agablis sound.
The lyrics expose a deeply personal and spiritual journey, seeking restoration, grace, and reassurance of God’s love.
The first verse is a prayerful surrender of vulnerability, searching for answers and forgiveness. “You knew me then” is a reflection on a past closeness with God, a time when faith felt stronger and more certain. “Just asking for a friend” hints at a quiet plea for help.
The second verse shifts toward a renewal of faith and trust in the gift of God.’s grace, overcoming doubt and relying on God’s unchanging love. “You love me, still” emphasizes the unwavering nature of divine love, even through struggles.
The bridge builds with a sense of growing conviction—“I know… I know… you love me still.” The call to “run to Him and confess” urges surrender and release, with “unclench your fists” symbolizing letting go of burdens or resistance. Leading to a moment of complete freedom, “so free… Jesus with me,” reinforcing the peace found in Jesus.
The lyrics were inspired from the book of psalms where “How sweet are Your words,” liken God’s word to honey, drawing from Psalm 119:103, which speaks of the sweetness of divine truth.
Raw and vulnerable, these lyrics cry out for healing, wrestle with doubt, and find freedom in God’s grace. His endless love brings surrender, peace, and a forgiveness that sets us free.
